Inserting a Survey onto a Page/Masterpage in an Aplinx Website

The main methods that may be used to integrate a Survey into an existing website are described here.

When creating a link to surveys (using any of the methods described) first identify the survey 'Source'. To do this, enter the Portal containing the Survey in question by selecting the EDIT PORTAL button for that Portal. Under each Survey name in the Portal, is a URL. Copy the URL for the desired Survey and use this when creating the link.

Surveys within Portal - Edit Portal Screen

When accessing a live survey, it should appear in its own window, similar to that shown below:

PLEASE NOTE: if a survey is Offline, it will appear blank in the page to all users when accessed. Only Live surveys will appear to users when accessed. This is true when accessed by all of these methods.

Main Menu Link

Linking to a survey in the main menu of an Aplinx website may be achieved by one of the following methods.

  1. Regular pages - where the survey has been inserted as an Iframe object. For this method, create a page in Page Manager as normal, then insert the Iframe object containing the Survey onto the page.
For more information please see Page Manager, and Survey Iframes below.
  2. Override Link pages - where the menu links directly to the survey. Survey users will therefore see the survey as it appears when previewed from the Portal screen. When creating a page, or editing a page's properties in Page Manager, a survey may be linked to as a stand alone object (no Masterpage framework) using the Override Link option, insert the Survey's URL.

For more information please see Menus and Page Manager.
Image Link

Images, placed on a page, may be used as links to other pages or to the survey itself. When editing or uploading an image to an Aplinx website, insert URL for the survey into the LINK text field.

Please Note: links on images that have been created in this manner will not work when the image has been inserted into an article. For information on creating a link on an image that has been placed into an article, please see Article Editor - Images.

Popup/New Windows or Regular Page Links

This method allows the Survey to open in a new window as a stand alone object via a regular text or image link. To create a Popup, New Window or Regular page link, create a link inside an article. The article sould then be placed onto a page, allowing access to survey users.

For information on creating a link of this type please see Article Editor - Insert Link.

Iframe

An Iframe allows the Survey to exist within a page or Masterpage, surrounded (as per the layout of the page/Masterpage) by the main website design. The page containing the Survey may then be accessed as a normal page within the website. The image below shows one example of a survey inside an Iframe on a page/Masterpage.

example of a survey in an iframe on a page/Masterpage

For information on creating an Iframe in an Aplinx website, see Miscellaneous - Iframer.

When entering the Height of a new Iframe, some trial and error may be required (setting heights and viewing results on a page/Masterpage) as the Iframe's height can vary greatly upon how many questions are on each page of the Survey used. Please ensure that survey users will be able to see the BACK, NEXT and SUBMIT buttons for all surveys displayed.

Please Note:
  1. If using this method, it is strongly advised that you keep each page within your survey at the same or similar length to maintain consistency when viewed the survey is viewed through the Iframe.
  2. In regards to Iframe widths: when created using the Aplinx Iframer object and then placed onto a page or Masterpage, the width of the Iframe is determined by the amount of space available in the section where it has been inserted. If the space available in a page section where the an Iframe is inserted is less than the size required by the Survey, only that which fits into the available space will be seen by the user.
To ensure all of the Survey is seen by survey users, you may wish to increase the allotted size in the page or Masterpage structure.
