Aplinx® SEO toolsShort DescriptionHow can Aplinx® help search engines rank your web pages higher?Aplinx® has built in features that help you to target specific areas of your web pages in order to optimise their content. Creating Meaningful Page TitlesThe page title appears at the top of the Internet browser window. It may also appear as the title in search results (please note: this may depend on the search engine you are using). It is therefore recommended that you give each page in your website a meaningful and somewhat descriptive title to help identify it. Don’t just leave the title of the home page as HOME. Consider even adding your business name to this, or briefly describe the main topic discussed on the page. Aplinx® has two built in features that allow you to specify a page’s title. The first method is implemented automatically whenever a new page is added to your Aplinx® website. If you choose to use a meaningful and quite descriptive page title when creating the page, you may wish to simplify this on the menu. The Aplinx® Page Manager can assist with this. The URL name is slightly different. This relates to the web address itself. When a URL name is not nominated, the web address for pages in your website will instead be the page’s ID number, in the format: /?pageid=2 . It is highly recommended that each page URL, like the page title, help to identify the page. Netagi® is aware that adding meaningful titles to every page can be a tedious job, especially for larger websites. It can also become difficult to maintain the same look and feel across the board. The universal page title allows you to set one meaningful title across the entire site. This page title is appended to the beginning of a page’s unique name. In the example below the unique page name is 'Control Panel' and the Universal Page Title is 'Netagi Aplinx User's Manual - '. Search StuffThe Search Stuff section of your Aplinx® website comprises of three sections - Title, Keywords and Description. Access this via the Page Manager. The page TITLE shown in the search stuff section is the same as has been discussed above. When altering the page title here, please keep in mind the menu name for each page may need to be customised aswel. In later versions of Aplinx® we have implemented an 'auto generate' button for Keywords. When clicking on this button, Aplinx® will scan the page you are editing for commonly used words and phrases. A list of keywords and key phrases will then be generated into the keywords text area. You should review these automatically generated keywords and remove anything that is not relevant to what you believe visitors of your site will be searching for. The theory is, when these keywords match the content of your page, you may be ranked up higher in the search engine's results. SitemapA sitemap is generated and updated automatically by Aplinx® when your website pages are added or altered in the Page Manager. The sitemap is a background file that may be accessed by search engines when they are indexing your website. A thorough search engine will index all pages appearing on your sitemap. This feature is made freely available to all Aplinx® users. Hiding Aplinx® Pages from Search EnginesIf you do not wish for a page in your site to be indexed by the search engines, you may hide them with the following techniques. All pages in your website will appear on this sitemap, unless you have specified "do not index" in the page's properties. All pages that are hidden on the menu will still appear on the sitemap - and therefore may be accessed by the search engines - unless you specify "do not index" in the page's properties. To mark a page as 'private' - so that it does not appear in search engine's indexes or search result lists:
If you wish for the search engine to access the page again, simply ensure that the do not index checkbox is not ticked. If you wish to view a complete list of all pages that are not indexed from search engines, in your Internet browser, go to your website and type /robots.txt after your domain name. If no pages are hidden, the list should appear like this: User-agent: * Visit-time: 1300-1600 Request-rate: 1/10 Sitemap: http://yoursite.aplinx.com/sitemap.xml When a page is hidden, it will appear in this manner: User-agent: * Visit-time: 1300-1600 Request-rate: 1/10 Disallow: /hidden_page_name Disallow: /?pageid=123 Sitemap: http://yoursite.aplinx.com/sitemap.xml Please note:The above method is for hiding a page from search engines only. This will not prevent the pages from being accessed by everyday users if they have the page's address. If you wish to prevent access to a page (ie: users must login to view the page / its content) you should define the page's Permissions.
