Products

Short Description

The product manager will initially show you a list of products currently in your system - including their price (if there is one), title and an optional thumbnail. You have the flexibility to edit the object, including uploading a thumbnail and image to associate with the object, modify it's price and product code.

The product object is meant to be used as a very simple catalogue of items and/or services available from your business or company.

User/Group Prices

If you require multiple prices for each item, instead of duplicating the products, you may define User /Group prices (see Permissions for more information on defining actual user and group permissions). When set, particular prices/codes will appear when a particular user type is logged into your website.

To define a User/Group Price for a product:

  • While in the Edit Product Details section for that product, select the 'Edit' button next to User/Group Prices.
  • In the same window, you will be shown any currently allocated user/group prices.

User/Group price list

  • Select either 'Add User Price' or 'Add Group Price', dependant on your needs.

Both buttons will load a similar screen.

Select 'Pick' to load the User or Group Manager.

add user or group price
  • In the User or Group Manager click the 'Select' button next to the desired user or group object. The Add User Price box will reload showing the name or username of the selected group or user next to the 'Pick' button.
  • Enter a price in the Price textbox.
  • Click 'Save'. The Product Price List will refresh showing the new price information.

You may edit existing price information by selecting the 'Edit' or 'Delete' button for that item. User and group names that have been set in the above steps cannot be edited once you click save. If you require a new user or group name with an existing price record, you may need to delete the existing item and recreate it.

Select 'Back' to return to the Edit Product Details screen.

Images

Images relating to each product may be added. One image per product is selected (via a radio button in the Edit Product Details screen) to appear when the product is displayed to users. The size of the thumbnails are set in Product Template Manager.

Please note: images may not appear next to each product until the Product Template Manager settings have been viewed and saved at least one time.

  • To assign an image to a product click 'Add New' in the Edit Product Details screen.
  • A file upload box will be shown. Click 'Browse' to locate an image on your computer that relates to the current product.
  • When the file's location has been entered into the location textbox, click 'Upload'.

A thumbnail of the image will appear in the the Edit Product Details screen. To view the full sized image select 'View Image #....' where ... represents the ID number of the uploaded image. If you have edited the Product Template settings, you may need to click 'Auto-Thumbnail' for each product before new settings take effect.

Displaying the Products

To display a product on a page or Masterpage you will need to use the Product Template Manager menu. Changes made in the Product Template Manager will affect the way all of the objects in your product catalog are presented on a page.

By using the Product Template Manager you can modify the following settings:

  • Product Display Styles
  • Whether to display the product code
  • The text that should be displayed next to the product code
  • Where to display the product image
  • Image thumbnail size
  • If the price should be shown
  • If the quantity input field should be shown
  • If the 'order' button should be shown
  • What text to show on the order button - ie 'PURCHASE' or 'SEND QUOTE'

When users view your page which has a product on it, it may look similar to the following:

Once these changes are made you can insert each product onto a page or Masterpage.
