Inserting Content

Navigate your way to the page you wish to edit using menus/hyperlinks. Alternatively you could also use the Page Manager or Site button. Once you have arrived at the page select the Edit this Page button from the Aplinx toolbar.

The page you are going to edit might look similar to the following:

page layout

The page shown above was created with a Masterpage applied. The Masterpage contains a menu, a good layout and lots of empty space! There are "insert" buttons in every section or object that is editable. Please refer to Masterpage or Managing pages for more information regarding how to alter page layout.

If you have imported a Masterpage template there may be default content already in the pages. You may remove or edit this content before adding your own. This content may have been inserted either at the page or Masterpage level. The Masterpage that has been added in this example contains two 'Insert' buttons. Both indicate the location of an Editable Content area. The top is called 'Title'. Under this is the 'Content Area'. Naming your editable content areas the same on each Masterpage in your Aplinx system allows you to change the look of your entire website quickly without loosing any content. For more information please refer to Masterpage.

Choose where you want to place the object and click the 'Insert' button. In the example below content will be inserted into 'Content Area'.

insert

A new window will load. This is the Content Manager showing a variety of objects that can be added to the page. There are a few methods that can be used to select content:

choosing an object to insert

1. Last Objects
The list on the left includes 10 most recently added objects. It is a quick way of inserting. The object type is shown in brackets to the right. You may insert one of these objects by clicking on that object's name (shown in the image below as blue text).

2. Object ID Number
When created, each of the objects added to your website is given an Object ID number. You may insert the object by typing this number in the text box at the bottom of the Content Manager and clicking 'Select'.

3. Content Type

If the object you wish to insert does not appear in the top ten or you do not know the ID number use the following method. This is also useful for creating new objects. Select the content type for the object. Main content types appear in the top right hand corner. They are Articles, Images and Products. Additional types are listed across the bottom: Attachments, Containers, Menus, Miscellaneous, Article Slideshow, Flash, Image Slideshow, Polls and Registration Forms. Click on the object type you would like to add.

New Content

Beginning with option three (3) above, select the object type you wish to create. This example will describe how a new Article is created.

1. Click on 'Articles'. A new page will load showing the Article Manager. Select 'Add Article'.

add article

2. When the page loads again, enter the name of your new article in the text box and select 'Create'.

3. Your new article will appear at the bottom of the list in the Article Manager. Select 'Insert' to place the article on your web page.

insert

The article selected has now been inserted into the page and an actions toolbar has appeared above it. You can use this Edit button to perform a variety of tasks on each object type. See below for more information on editing.

If you wish to insert more objects then follow the above steps.

Moving Page Content

To a Diferent Section
object ID number

To move an object from one section to another:

  • Select 'Click to Edit' in the object's grey actions toolbar.
  • The object's menu will load on the left side of the window. Write down or keep a note of the object's ID number.
  • Remove the object from the page.
  • Insert the object in the correct content area. Using the object ID method will ensure your place the correct object in the new position.
Moving objects within the Same Section.

There are two methods that can be used to move objects within a single section.

The first involves the move button which can be found in the 'Edit Article' menu.

Select the grey click to edit button above the object that requires moving. This will load the 'Edit Article' menu on the left of the screen.

For objects that are not directly next to the insert button you will find a 'Move Object' button in the in the menu.

Selecting the 'Move Object' button will move the object one space in that direction.

move object up

The second involves deleting and reinserting section content in the desired order.

When objects are inserted into a content area, the first object will appear next to the 'Insert' button. Additional objects inserted into the same section will appear between 'Insert' and the first object. For the example below the article titled 'Copyright' was added second. To have this object at the bottom of this section the article would need to be added before any others. For an object to be on top in this example, it needs to be added last.

  • Identify each object's ID number by selecting their respective 'Click to Edit' button.
  • Write or keep note of these numbers and the order by which each should appear on the page.
  • Remove the objects from the page.
  • Insert objects in order, beginning with the one that is required furthest from the 'Insert' button.

objects to rearrange

This example shows VERTICLE object alignment - where objects are inserted above or below each other. HORIZONTAL object alignment should be used when objects are required side by side - for left/right movement. For information on horizontal and verticle object alignment see Page Layout.
