Frequently Asked Questions
This page contains a list of FAQs about the Netagi Aplinx Content Management System.
-
How do I login to my Aplinx Website?
-
Information on how to login can be found on the following page:
-
I've never made a website before, what should I do first?
-
Go to Before you begin - Where to start...
This page explains everything from choosing a design, website navigation, creating your home page and creating content pages, to organising your website content.
-
I want a good page rank - what can I do to help?
-
Aplinx® has built in features that help you to target specific areas of your web pages in order to optimise their content.
For more information on this, see Aplinx® SEO Tools.
-
How can I tell Google not to look at a particular page?
-
See Aplinx® SEO Tools. Specifically look at the information on Hiding pages from Search Engines.
To hide a page from the search engines, you will need to tick the do not index option for that page in the Page Manager.
-
How can I stop the public from accessing a particular page?
-
There are two methods:
- You can hide the page on the menu - see Page Manager. Using this method, only people you give the page URL to will be able to view the page (Search Engines will still be able to view the page).
OR
- You can alter the page's permissions - see Page Permissions. Using this method, only members of the selected group will be able to view the page (login required).
-
My website descriptions in search results are all the same. Why?
-
The search engines will generally take the first section of content from the page as the description. If your menu is the first item on the page (top of the page or very left hand column) this is what they will see.
To change this you should add a description for each page. See the Aplinx® SEO Tools section on Search Stuff.
Please note: all search engines will create a description for your page with a slightly different method.
-
How can I make an FAQ listing like this on my Aplinx site?
-
The FAQ generator was added to the Aplinx CMS in September 2008. Check out the following pages for assistance creating your own FAQ list:
-
People spam the email address on my website? How can I stop this?
-
The best way to prevent spam email is to not display your email address on your website.
Instead, try using a contact form that will email you the form responses directly. This way your address is kept private and genuine visitors can still contact you.
For more information see Registration Form and Form Designer.
-
Can I change my website's favourite icon?
-
By default, this will be the Aplinx® logo
You may upload your own favicon.ico file in the control panel of your Aplinx® website.
See Control Panel for more details.
-
Where should I define the font in my Aplinx site?
-
If you want the same font across your entire website, you only need to do this in two places. They are:
- The Masterpage's Additional Style
AND
- In the Article Styles entry for All Pages
If you set the font here, all other styles and page sections will adopt the same font.
-
How can I change paragraph and heading styles?
-
Change the look and feel of your site text with Article Styles.
As an example, the image (right) shows four completely different themes.
When editing your articles, you may then select any of your defined styles from the format select list.
If you need to alter these styles later, updating in the Article Styles manager means you will update all instances of the style across your site.
-
How can I change the look and feel of links in my site?
-
Change the look and feel of your site links with Article Styles.
There are three main styles here that allow you to customise all of your links. They are:
- Link
- Link (Visited)
- Link (Hover)
If you have not altered these styles, the default link style used by your Internet browser will be applied. This is generally a blue link that will appear purple once you have visited the page.
-
How do I change my username and password?
-
This is done in the Permissions Manager.
Go to the user section and select the user you wish to change then click EDIT.
-
I've added another user to edit the website, but they can't see the admin toolbar, why?
-
When you added the user, did you set their account to be active? To check this, go to PERMISSIONS > USERS > select the user and click EDIT.
OR
Have you assigned the user administrator privileges?
This can be done in two different ways:
- If you wish to give the new user permission to edit everything, go to Admin Accounts and add the new user
OR
- If you wish to give the user permission to edit only certain things in the site, assign Manager Permissions for that user, or a group of users.
-
How can I see my site 'as a visitor' without logging out?
-
Use two Internet browsers.
Login to edit using one (Mozilla Firefox is recommended) and view the site in another (such as Opera, Safari, Internet Explorer or Google Chrome).
-
What's the difference between an Article Slideshow and a Scrolling Text Object?
-
An article slideshow can contain two or more articles that will swap places at a defined interval. With an article slideshow, the entire article will display at a single time.
The scrolling text object may contain only one article. Portions of that article will be displayed at a time.

My breadcrumb menu doesn't show the home page. Why?
-
Are you expecting something like this:
Home > News > News Archive
but can only see:
News > News Archive
The breadcrumb menu shows pages in a heirachy. Most standard menus will have the home page in the same heirachy level as the other main page links such as the News page in the example above. Therfore if you are on the news archive page, to view the home page on the breadcrumb menu you would need to have the news page as a sub page of the home page.
-
Can I let visitors leave comments on my web page?
-
Yes - but remember this means that anybody could add content to your website. You - as the owner of the site - are responsible for moderating the blog for inappropriate content.
How Do you make a comments form?
Using Form Designer. Create a standard form for visitors to enter comments and then create a filter form that will display the comments.
To view an example, access our Demo Site:
http://shopdefault.aplinx.com/blog
To see how this was done, please sign up at Netagi to access this free demo site.
Once you have logged in, on this page you will see that the initial form has been placed on a page (with a blank Masterpage) inside an iframe object. This is because having the form on the same page as the filter form prevents the form saving. The form submits to a thank you page (also with a blank Masterpage).
-
I have a shop on my site, but don't like the menu. Can I make my own?
-
-
How do I hide the logout button or the login form from certain users?
-
Login and logout buttons may have permissions assigned to them. When in edit mode, select the grey Click to Edit button above the object and then select edit permissions from the Edit Menu on the left of the screen.
In the permissions selector, add the group or user who you wish to give permissions to.
- If you wish to show the login box to just users who are not logged in, add the Anonymous user and tick the respective view option.

- You should then untick the world user (this means everyone).
- If you want to show the logout button to just a particular member or group of members, add that user or member group and tick the respective view checkbox.

Please note: as the admin user, you will always be able to see all objects, irrespective of the permissions that have been set.
If you are using Member Manager you should be using the Member Status Object. This object swaps between a login and a logout form based on the user's status.
-
Can I have a different template on just one page?
-
Yes, you may assign a page its own template in the Page Manager (see also Managing Pages). Simply locate the page in the page manager list and go to properties for that page. Select the PICK button next to use masterpage to view a list of masterpages in your site. Pick the desired template and the ID number for that template will be inserted here.

If you add sub pages to this page, they will automatically adopt the same template
