Control Panel

Short Description

The Control Panel governs three key administrator functions for your website:

  • Page Titles - What appears at the top of your Internet Browser window (above the address bar and browser toolbars)
  • Caching - A cache (or snapshot) of most websites is taken by the server to speed up the loading times of webpages
  • Favourite Icons - the icon appearing in the URL bar, to the left of the HTTP address.

Setting Universal Page Title

The page title appears at the top of the Internet browser window, ahead of the Page Name. It may also appear as the title in search engine results (this depends on the search engine you are using). In the example below (this page) the page name is 'Control Panel' and the Universal Page Title is 'Netagi Aplinx User's Manual - '.

page titles

When a Universal Page Title is set here, it is used to define the same wording for all pages. When set in Page Manager itself, in each individual page's Properties, these names may differ. Please choose whichever suits the needs of your website.

To define the same wording for all pages within your website, enter the desired text into the textbox at the top of the Control Panel window, then click the SAVE button. (Please Note: this page will not close when saved. To view changes, click on the Green VIEW PAGE button in the Aplinx toolbar above.

Hint: When entering a value into the Universal Page Title, it is recommended that you end in a blank space to avoid universal title and unique page titles merging into a single word. For example:

page title, no space

You may use a variety of combinations to separate the page titles, such as : , - , :: , etc. This is up to your own personal choice.

Clearing the Website Cache

If you have been editing images / content on your website, you may wish to clear the cache (memory), so that all who view the website will see the most up to date version. To do this:

  • Access Control Panel (as described above)
  • Click the CLEAR CACHE button.

No other steps are required for this action. Please Note: this page does not close when saved, it will only reload.

Changing the Favourite Icon

Favourite Icons appear in the URL address bar of most Internet browsers. They may also appear when a user saves a webpage as a bookmark.

With this setting, you are able to define your own image.

favicon example

To define a new favourite icon for your website, on the Control Panel window, click the BROWSE button to search for a .ico file on your local computer. When you have located the file, click UPLOAD.

Please Note: To set a new favourite icon file, you must upload a .ico file. If you have an image (.jpg or .gif) that you wish to use, this should be converted to a .ico file before uploading. There are many websites offering image to .ico file conversion, such as: www.favicongenerator.com (not affiliated with Aplinx).

After updating, your Favourite Icon will not always change immediately - your browser takes a few minutes (possibly even days) to notice the change. You may attempt to speed up the update by taking the following steps (this works for some Internet Browsers only):

  • Right clicking on the old favourite icon image (shown on the Control Panel window) and selecting to open or view the image.
  • Next, press CTRL + SHIFT on your keyboard and the REFRESH button on your Internet browser (all at the same time).
Please Note: some Internet browsers do not support the appearence of favourite icons 100% of the time. This is controlled by the user's Internet Browser, not the website. EG:
